Richard Doe, Managing Director

Richard Doe is Managing Director of Paragon Bank. Until 2013, Richard was CEO of ING Direct UK, having previously been Marketing & Strategy Director. Prior to working at ING, Richard held a number of senior marketing positions in the financial services industry including at The Woolwich and Legal & General. Richard is a Chartered Banker.

Andrew Smithson, Finance Director

Andrew Smithson was Head of Finance at Unity Trust Bank between 2005 and 2013 where he was responsible for all aspects of financial and regulatory reporting, financial planning and treasury, as well as ensuring that liquidity, capital and market risk was managed in line with the Board’s risk appetite.

Prior to working at Unity Trust Bank, Andrew worked for the Financial Services Authority and KPMG, where he undertook a number of roles in the audit and advisory practices. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant and a member of ICAEW.

Ben Whibley, Chief Risk Officer

Ben Whibley is Chief Risk Officer at Paragon Bank. Prior to joining Paragon Bank, Ben was Risk and Compliance Manager at Unity Trust Bank where he had overall responsibility for development of the Bank’s risk plan and compliance monitoring.

Ben spent his early career at KPMG working in assurance, audit and advisory roles. Ben is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the ICAEW.

Derek Sprawling, Head of Savings

Derek Sprawling joined Paragon Bank from Virgin Money where he was responsible for savings product planning and savings product management.

Prior to this, Derek held a variety of senior marketing roles in savings and mortgages with Newcastle Building Society.

Julian Rance, Head of Car Finance

Julian Rance has over 25 years' experience within the car finance market, 11 years spent with Forward Trust Group (Midland Bank / HSBC Bank) and 17 years with Paragon Group.

Julian was Managing Director of Paragon's previous car finance asset origination business and has management experience in all aspects of the car finance market, including consumer, corporate and wholesale funding.

John Webb, Head of Personal Loans

John Webb has over 30 years' experience within the secured loans market and, prior to joining Paragon, managed the two secured loans companies owned by HFC Bank – Sterling Trust Limited and Endeavour Personal Finance Limited.

John joined Paragon Group in 1999 and helped to set up the previous secured personal loans business, Paragon Personal Finance Limited. John became Managing Director in 2002 and established the company as a leading supplier to the secured loans broker market. John is also the Chairman of the FLA Secured Lenders Group.

Gary Leitch, Managing Director of Asset Finance

Gary Leitch joined Paragon Bank in 2016 to spearhead growth of the Bank’s Asset Finance business. Before joining Paragon, Gary worked for Lombard, the UK’s largest asset finance business, where he gained nearly 30 years’ experience lending in SME, corporate, retail and leveraged finance markets. At Lombard, Gary held a range of senior roles, with responsibility for business development, operations and risk management and ultimately with board responsibility for corporate sales.

Fintan O'Riordan, Development Finance Director

Heading up the team, Fintan has a wealth of experience in property and development finance, having worked with a number of specialist lenders in the development sector, and, most recently, with the development finance team at Barclays. Fintan’s ability to deliver has allowed him to build strong and lasting relationships with brokers and developers over a 20 year career and this ongoing focus on delivery is key to Paragon Bank Development Finance.

Stephen Sandiford, Director of mortgages

Steve Sandiford is Director of Mortgages at Paragon Bank and is responsible for all aspects of the Bank's mortgage lending. With experience in buy-to-let and owner-occupied lending, Steve is responsible for all aspects of mortgage lending from product development, credit risk and intermediary relationships, all the way through to loan servicing. Steve is a seasoned mortgage professional and has held senior positions at various lenders, large and small.

Stephen Blaney, Non-executive Chairman

Stephen Blaney has held a number of senior executive and non-executive appointments in the financial services industry, including Chairman of the Fairmount Group plc, Managing Director of Legal & General Financial Services and Managing Director of the UK private bank, Brown Shipley where he was non-executive Chairman until 2012.

Stephen is currently a non-executive director at Blevin Franks and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

Nigel Terrington, Non-executive Director

Nigel Terrington is Chief Executive of The Paragon Group of Companies. He joined the Group in 1987 and became Chief Executive in 1995, having previously held the positions of Treasurer and Finance Director. Prior to joining the Group, Nigel worked in investment banking.

Nigel is a member of HM Treasury’s Home Finance Forum, and has previously held the positions of Chairman of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, Chairman of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, Chairman of the FLA Consumer Finance Division and Board member of the Finance & Leasing Association. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

Patrick Newberry, Non-executive Director

Patrick Newberry spent 25 years as a consulting and regulatory partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers until his retirement in 2013, concentrating on the Financial Services industry. He was a member of PwC's Supervisory Board, Chair of the Strategy, Governance & International Sub Committee and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee. Patrick was a board member and past president (2010/11) of the Management Consultancies Association Ltd (MCA) and sat on the judging panel for the MCA 2014 awards, a benchmark for quality in the consulting industry.

Over the course of his career, Patrick has established close links with the FSA and Bank of England regulatory teams, as well as the Government and he is a frequent public speaker and author on issues affecting the Financial Services industry. Patrick also holds a Non-Executive Directorship of Unipart Expert Practices.

Finlay Williamson, Non-executive Director

Finlay Williamson was Finance Director of Virgin Money between 2009 and 2014, where he was responsible for supporting the design and delivery of the company’s growth strategy, including the assessment of potential markets, the development of key propositions and the pursuit of non-organic opportunities.

Prior to joining Virgin Money, Finlay had a long career at Royal Bank of Scotland where he held a number of senior finance roles, latterly as Finance Director for the Bank’s Manufacturing and Retail Direct divisions. Finlay is a Chartered Accountant.
